What do we do?
We specialise in complete servers "made to order", and top-quality server components, plus a number of "server peripherals" storage (NAS, DAS, SAN), VLS (Very Large redundant storage clusters from 30 Tb to 1 Petabyte) SATA, SAS and eSATA RAID systems, rendering and Virtualisation servers. We've also just released a "Privare Cloud" solution in collaboration with one of our integrators.
We also build high-end workstations, and have a creative solution for eliminating the need for PCs in companies (Ncomputing!)
Then, around the servers; UPS systems, 48 Volt systems, Power management, networking products, Infiniband, serial solutions, terminal emulators etc.
We approach the server market from a quality attitude, and obtain purchase prices for components that are close to the OEM-level. The parts that we use are in most cases the same that you will find in a “big brand” server.
For example our Tyan motherboards are also in many HP and Siemens servers. Our Zippy/Emacs power supplies are in many big brand machines, etc.)
That, AND our compact infrastructure without international overhead, makes us EXTREMELY competitive with our servers, without the slightest concession to quality.
Our AMD and Intel based servers with Tyan and Asus server motherboards outperform all those "big brand" servers.
Two doctrines: the Supertanker effect and the cost pyramid.
Supertanker: we vigorously test any new technology that comes up, validate, and start shipping as soon as we agree that it’s “Leading Edge” and NOT “Bleeding edge”. This gives us a LONG advance on the big brands.
Example: The first 64-bit Opteron systems from UP-Servers started shipping in July 2003. The wave of announcements of HP, Siemens, IBM etc. came in October 2004! Dell followed much later. Also, we've been shipping servers with SSD drives for more than 6 years now, and started with virtualisation in 2003.
Every new generation has to be lower cost, faster, better. (Moore's law!). This gives us a good competitive advantage.
Pyramid: We do not need 50 mercedes in front and two floors of neckties above us to make a better machine. We do not have worldwide objectives, Europe only. So you don’t pay for a heavy infrastructure.

We recently won against 6 big brand offers in a University in Belgium where we proved that we were a generation ahead if the big brands with a server that cost less than the "Big Brand" machines.
